Master Rigger, Portsmouth based Salary: £37,000 - £48,000 per annum (dependent upon experience) 37.5 hours per week – permanent The National Museum of the Royal Navy is the UK's newest National Museum. We are recruiting an experienced Master Rigger within the expanding Historic Ships Conservation team based in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will be part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team of museum professionals, conservators and maritime industry specialists committed to high quality professional work maintaining and conserving historic ships. The majority of your time will be based on the Portsmouth ships- HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and HMS M.33 - with occasional travel to other ships posted at the Museum's other locations in the UK, such as HMS Trincomalee in Hartlepool and HMS Caroline in Belfast. You will join a friendly, multidisciplinary team of museum professionals, conservators and maritime industry specialists committed to high quality professional work maintaining and conserving historic ships. Key Opportunities - Your role as Master Rigger will place you as the technical expert on the masts yards and rigging of the Museum's Historic Ships. - The role will oversee the work of the Rigging team, with support from the rest of the Historic Ships members, in co-ordinating contractors, implementing planned conservation and undertaking emergent work to the rigs of the ships. - Your position will see you lead the work to redesign and reinstate the rig of HMS Victory as part of the ship's high-profile restoration project. - This role provides an excellent opportunity to those involved in interesting and challenging heritage work within historic ships. Knowledge/Experience - The role does require an experienced Rigger with specialist knowledge of conservation and maintenance of the masts, yards and the rigging of historic ships. - Applicants must be qualified to IRATA Level 3 or equivalent with high level knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and LOLER. - The role will also require an individual confident in leading a team of rigger staff and working within a team environment and coordinating contractors onsite.
