Purchasing Manager. An outstanding opportunity has arisen to join a fast growing, international business based in Exeter. A global market leader in outdoor technology products, the company has won numerous design and business awards and has markets in the marine, agriculture, RV and outdoor spaces sectors in over 40 countries. The company is seeking to appoint a Purchasing Manager to lead and manage its international supply chain partners, stock management and logistics. Salary bracket dependent on performance and experience (generous). Key attributes: Personality:- Diligent, organised, good at problem solving, sound decision making, adaptable, excellent planner, confident communicator both written and verbal. Supplier communication:- Ability to negotiate on pricing, lead time, MOQ etc on a daily basis. The successful candidate needs to be prepared to provide a solid case for a reduced price and have the difficult conversations while maintaining good relations with suppliers. IT and organisation:- Excel and Sage experience is important – exporting data from Sage, analysing and manipulating this information in Excel to produce product forecasts and therefore predict the component demand and build a reliable and flexible purchase plan. It is essential to ensure stock of all components is kept to a level appropriate to demand. If a candidate does not have experience in Sage they should show evidence of good general IT skills, Sage is a fairly intuitive program and it’s likely the right person for the job will not have used it before. Maintaining and creating product records on Sage including building accurate BOMs which are essential for correctly managing component stock. Exhibit a logical approach to ensure BOMs are built/layered to pull stock off the system correctly. Creating UPC-A and EAN-13 barcodes for each new product. Carefully executed and should be followed through to signing off new product artwork. Budget management: using a demand lead purchasing model whilst maintaining spend within the agreed budget. Monthly purchasing reports including previous spend levels, forecast spend and any anomalies. Working closely with others:- Working together with the in-house design team during new product development including supplier selection, allocation of part numbers and building the BOM. Also working collaboratively with the design team and Product Manager to ensure thorough quality control measures are in place and followed for both new and existing lines. Close liaison with the sales team to gain new product forecasts and information regarding any change that could impact historical demand on existing lines. Inventory management for Scanstrut USA, communicating with the USA based General Manager and using sales history to forecast demand, balancing this with efficient shipments made without compromising Scanstrut UK stock levels. Working closely with Finance Manager to provide buying forecasts and prioritising purchase spends to ensure continuity of stock. Operations: Managing a small warehouse team and being the communication link between them and sales admin. Key roles include: - guidance on day-to-day tasks - physical stock management ensuring records on Sage are accurate with the shelves - order processing and raising paperwork for shipping - checking-in supplier deliveries accurately and addressing any issues - quality control checks and resolution processes - freight to ensure all imports and exports are booked on an appropriate service and periodically renegotiating rates.
